In Loving Memory of David Barber
In Loving Memory of David Barber
1963 – 2017
David James Barber, age 54, passed away gracefully from this earth on Friday, December 1, 2017 in Dallas, Texas, after a spirited and generosity-filled life.
David joined the financial services industry in 1986. After graduating from Texas Tech University with a BBA in Finance, David went to work as a Credit Analyst for Park Central Bank of Dallas. In 1991, David accepted a Financial Advisor position at Merrill Lynch in Dallas and was given the opportunity to complete the 2 year Professional Development Program.
David returned to his hometown of Lubbock, Texas in 1994 and continued to work as an advisor. In 1997, he accepted a position with City Bank of Lubbock advising clients and managing the brokerage division for the bank until early 2012.
And in February of 2012, with a philosophy of “Simplicity, Clarity, and Confidence”, West Texas Investments was formed and today, still remains well-recognized by the community.
David touched thousands of lives, enhancing clients ability to achieve lifelong goals. He was passionate about his work as a Financial Advisor, and was beloved by his clients. He had a big heart and was always wlling to take time to listen to clients, friends, and colleagues to offer a helping hand.
David was also a devoted husband and father, survived by his wife, Stacey, their two sons, Brandon and Travis, and two rescue dogs (Sheila and Huck).
I began my career in the financial industry in 1989. Following my graduation from Angelo State University with a BBA in Finance, I started this journey, now nearly three decades old, as an insurance agent for Four Texas Insurance Services in San Angelo, Texas. In 1994, I accepted a position as a Financial Advisor at Primevest in Lubbock through Western National Bank and two years later I began serving my clients at City Bank of Lubbock through the brokerage division of the bank until 2012.
In February of 2012, armed with the philosophy of "Simplicity, Clarity, and Confidence", and a co-Founder, the late David Barber, West Texas Investments was formed and a new chapter of serving my clients best interests as an independent financial professional began. We proudly continue serving our clients with our West Texas hospitality today!
Besides my passion for serving my clients, I am passionate about my son, Callen, traveling, Texas Tech University, the community of Lubbock and various philanthropic causes.
I have called west Texas my home for more than 45 years. In 1986, I graduated from Texas Tech University with a finance degree and have lived, worked, and worshiped in Lubbock since 1988. For 25 years I worked for the IRS, gaining an extensive knowledge of tax law. In 2012, I embarked on a career as a financial consultant with Thrivent Financial, growing in expertise and experience along the way. My quest for knowledge inspired me to earn one of our industry’s most prestigious designations, the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM in December of 2016. Soon afterward, I decided I could best work with my clients as an independent financial advisor, not encumbered by proprietary products or processes. As a CFP® and independent Christian advisor, I serve as a fiduciary and do what is best for my clients. I am passionate about helping clients understand their situation and make sound decisions along their financial journey.
It is through shared interests in our community and Christian organizations that I met Stephanie Stewart. From the start, I was drawn to her and the mission of West Texas Investments: Simplicity, Clarity, and Confidence. I will be adding a unique blend of services based upon each client’s goals and values as we build, manage, and protect wealth for generations to come!
I have one son, Ryan and a daughter-in-law, Tiffany. I attend church at Hope Lutheran and enjoy spending time with my family, gardening, travel, and entertaining.
I am sophomore at Texas Tech University where I am majoring in Accounting with an expected graduation date of May 2022. I started my part-time internship with West Texas Investments in January of 2019.
If you would like to schedule an appointment with Stephanie or Debbie, I am the person to call.
Don't hesitate to get in touch with us. We would love the opportunity to become your trusted advisor.
